As of October 15, the CDC reported 4,410 confirmed measles cases in the United States for 2026 — an increase of 330 cases in one week, an 8% jump. Pennsylvania remains the epicenter, with the state health department confirming 1,260 cases across 43 counties as of October 16, including 238 hospitalizations and five confirmed measles-associated deaths (a sixth is under investigation).
The CDC is sending a “disease detective” (Epidemic Intelligence Service officer) to Pennsylvania at the state’s request via the Epi-Aid program. About 96% of national cases are in unvaccinated people or those with unknown vaccination status. Children and teens ages 5–19 make up 42% of cases; adults 20+ make up 41%.
