Parent Briefing — 18 October 2026
As of 15 October, the CDC reports 4,410 confirmed measles cases in the United States for 2026, an increase of 330 from the prior weekly update. Pennsylvania continues as the epicenter with 1,260 cases across 43 counties, 238 hospitalizations, and five confirmed measles-associated deaths (a sixth under review by state officials). CDC has deployed Epidemic Intelligence Service support to the state.
Clinic asks
- Confirm MMR status for every household member. Schedule catch-up doses for anyone without two documented doses.
- For infants aged 6–11 months living in or traveling to counties with ongoing transmission, ask about an early dose of MMR. This dose does not count toward the routine series and must be repeated at the usual ages.
- Ask whether household members with fever, rash, cough, or conjunctivitis should isolate and be evaluated before returning to school, daycare, or work.
Household steps this week
- Check the pantry for any remaining Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Powdered Infant Formula (recalled June 2026; Best By dates ending 2027). Discard if found.
- Confirm the lot number on any Babies’ Magic Tea Baby Sleep Gripe Water. Lot 25122bw (best before 12/2028) was recalled for undeclared alcohols. Stop use and return or discard.
- Keep a simple rash-and-fever watch list for the household so clinic calls are faster if symptoms appear.
This is editorial context for parents, not medical advice. Confirm numbers and next steps with your clinic or local health department.
