Parent Briefing: Measles Cases Reach 4,410 (CDC Oct 15)

As of October 15, 2026, the CDC reports 4,410 confirmed measles cases in the United States, an increase of 330 from the previous week. Hospitalizations stand at 451. Pennsylvania remains the epicenter with roughly 1,222–1,260 cases and multiple measles-associated deaths under review.

The CDC is deploying an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) “disease detective” to assist Pennsylvania health officials.

What parents should do this week

  • Check MMR status for everyone in the household. Infants 6–11 months traveling or in outbreak areas may need an early dose. Catch-up for older children and adults is straightforward at most clinics.
  • Know the rash. Measles starts with high fever, cough, runny nose, and red eyes, then a rash that begins at the hairline and spreads downward.
  • Isolate early. If fever and respiratory symptoms appear after known exposure, call your clinic before walking in.

Other notes

  • Papablic convertible bedside sleeper recall (CPSC 27-027, Oct 15): stop use of model PAPA03001AI due to mattress displacement and latch failure. About 248 units.
  • Formula botulism: comments on a draft petition to add C. botulinum testing of finished product and dairy ingredients are due October 30.
