# Parent Briefing — 16 October 2026
Short notes for parents on developments from the last 24–48 hours. Editorial context, not medical or legal advice.
## 1. Papablic convertible bedside sleeper recall
On October 15, CPSC announced a recall of about 248 Papablic bedside sleepers with play yard extensions (model PAPA03001AI). The mattress can shift, creating a suffocation/entrapment gap, and the latching mechanism can fail, risking collapse, falls, and entrapment. Sold on Amazon and the brand site April 2025–July 2026 for ~$190. No injuries reported.
**What to do:** Stop use immediately. Contact Papablic for a refund after providing proof of destruction (disassemble, cut mattress/fabric, email photos to [email protected]). Check the label under the mattress pad for model PAPA03001AI. Other Papablic models are not affected.
## 2. Primark 101 Dalmatians coin purses — phthalates
CPSC recalled Primark faux-leather children’s coin purses (101 Dalmatians theme) because they contain higher levels of phthalates, which can be harmful if ingested or with prolonged contact. Stop use and contact the retailer for the remedy.
## 3. Gripe-water alcohol reminder
One lot of Babies’ Magic Tea Baby Sleep Gripe Water (lot 25122bw, best before 12/2028) was recalled after FDA found undeclared ethanol (~8.3%), methanol, and isopropanol. Stop use of that lot; discard or return for refund. No adverse events reported so far.
## 4. Measles continues at 35-year high
CDC reports 4,080 confirmed U.S. cases as of October 8 (highest since 1991), with 95% unvaccinated or unknown status and ~10% hospitalized. Pennsylvania has ~1,222 cases and has reported multiple measles-associated deaths that CDC has not fully reflected in its national count. Infants under 1 year cannot yet receive MMR; household protection and clinic asks remain key.
**Practical steps today**
- Check sleepers and any Primark coin purses against the model/lot details.
- Review gripe-water bottles for the recalled lot.
- Confirm household MMR status and discuss early MMR (6–11 months) with your clinician if traveling or in an outbreak area.
