Pennsylvania health officials reported 1,260 confirmed measles cases across 43 counties as of October 16, 2026, with 38 new cases since October 14. The state has confirmed five measles-associated deaths and is investigating a sixth reported by a Franklin County coroner. Hospitalizations stand at 238.

Nationally, the CDC reported 4,410 cases as of October 15, an increase of 330 in one week. About 96% of cases are in people who are unvaccinated or whose status is unknown. The CDC is sending an Epidemic Intelligence Service officer (a “disease detective”) to Pennsylvania under an Epi-Aid request to help investigate transmission and the scale of the outbreak.
