Parent Briefing — 17 October 2026 As of mid-October, the CDC reports 4,410 confirmed measles cases in the United States for 2026, up 330 in the latest weekly update. Pennsylvania has confirmed 1,260 cases across 43 counties, with 238 hospitalizations and five confirmed measles

A short briefing for parents, 18 October 2026. Editorial context, not medical advice.

Shared milk powder links two infant botulism outbreaks

FDA and CDC have confirmed that the 2025 ByHeart and 2026 Nara Organics infant botulism outbreaks share a common source: organic whole milk powder from Organic West Milk, spray-dried by Dairy Farmers of America.

What parents should do now

  • Check any remaining Nara Organics Whole Milk Organic Powdered Infant Formula (all lots recalled June 2026; Best By ending 2027). Discard it.
  • ByHeart products were recalled in November 2025; do not use leftover cans.
  • Watch for infant botulism symptoms: constipation, weak cry, poor feeding, floppy muscles, difficulty breathing. Seek care immediately.
  • Formula remains safe when properly manufactured; this highlights supplier oversight gaps.

Root-cause investigation continues. FDA has urged tighter supplier controls. A petition seeking mandatory C. botulinum testing of finished formula and dairy ingredients has a comment deadline of 30 October 2026.
