Water-bead squishy buns: the 17 September CPSC recall parents should still check

The toy story parents should still act on this week is not another teether list. On 17 September 2026 CPSC announced that Toyworld168 is recalling Rainbow Mystery Squishy Bun toys because the water beads inside expand larger than the federal toy standard allows.

## What the recall says

If a child bites through the bun and swallows a bead, the sphere keeps growing. That can mean choking, blockage, vomiting, dehydration, and surgery. Water-bead injuries are easy to miss at first because the bead is clear and the child may not look like they “swallowed a toy.”

CPSC listed the same week of toy actions that keep repeating a pattern: silicone strings that are too long (SHEIN Pull & Chew teethers), knobs that detach from busy boards (Esjay), and magnets that come out of stick figures (Jerify / Colerinsec, 38,507 units, two hospitalizations).

## Why it matters now

These products sit in party bags and Amazon carts because they look cheap and “Montessori.” The hazard is not branding. It is physics: expanding polymers and loose high-powered magnets do not belong in mouths of children under three.

## What to do

Stop using the squishy bun toys. Check the CPSC notice for the seller name Toyworld168 and follow the refund path listed there. If a child who played with water beads has unexplained vomiting, refusal to eat, or a swollen belly, treat it as urgent — not a stomach bug.
