Parent Briefing — 5 November 2026

Key developments for parents from the last 24 hours and this week:

  1. Pennsylvania confirms sixth measles-associated death. An unvaccinated Jefferson County resident died after testing positive. Statewide cases now 1,467 across 45 counties, with 283 hospitalizations. More than 61,000 MMR doses were given in October. Early zero-dose is advised for infants 6–11 months in areas with sustained transmission. Check the PA measles dashboard for local status.

  1. New York reports first measles-linked child death in 30 years. A 7-month-old unvaccinated infant from Lewis County died. The state had declared a disaster emergency in October. Household vaccination remains the strongest protection for infants too young for the routine series.

  1. Once Upon a Farm Tractor Wheels bars. The company is reformulating the recalled toddler soft-baked bars after reports of choking (sticky mass that standard interventions may not clear). All lots were recalled; do not serve remaining product. Check FDA and company updates for reformulated versions.

  1. RSV season notes. Early activity continues in some areas. Maternal RSV vaccine (32–36 weeks) or infant monoclonal (nirsevimab/clesrovimab) both show strong real-world protection against hospitalization. Most infants need only one approach. Ask your OB or pediatric team which covers this baby.

None of this is medical advice. For suspected exposure or symptoms (fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, then rash), contact a clinician or local health department promptly.
